The Teaching Improvement Project System was originally developed and produced by the University of Kentucky Center for Learning Resources, College of Allied Health Professions, with a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. TIPS was designed to help health care professionals become better teachers. It was introduced to Canada through the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Medicine, and in 1993 made its way to the University of Saskatchewan where it currently uses the following format.


TIPS formatThe SET occurs in the first 5-10 minutes and sets up the strategy for the day's session.

The BODY varies depending on whether you are teaching an academic topic or a skill.

The CLOSURE lasts 10-15 minutes and sums up the learning that has occurred.
